New Piggy Tales Collection

Piggy Tales has a delightful line in the store called "5 Little Ducks Collection." It really is suitable for more than baby-themed projects. This layout was created with 3 of the double-sided cardstock papers. I also used a Hero Arts rubber stamp to create the flourish embellishment. (I always forget that rubber stamps can be used for more than cards.) Unfortunately this photo does not emphasize the details; parts of the flourish are decorated with Basic Grey bling.

The note card below was created from 1/2 sheet of this collection. It could be used as a note card, kid's birthday card, or party invitation. Select strips were cut out from the paper and arranged on the front of a plain white card. Another strip was glued to the inside of the card. Very fast and easy project!

Christmas Gift Idea

Is it time to start hinting to your family what you'd like for Christmas? Scrapbook Haus offers gift cards so you can pick out your own gift (solves the problem of receiving stuff you already own).

Another option is a Scrapbook Haus Crop Time Key Tag. The cost is $60 and it is valid for 365 days from the date of purchase. The key tag entitles you to free access to the crop room and die cuts (provided there is not a class scheduled), three free crop nights, $15 class tuition money, and 15% discount on purchases made on your birthday. So you can truly enjoy your gift all year long!

AND just for our Blog visitors: Until Dec 24, you can purchase a key tag for a special price of $45. Just mention you want the Blogger special at checkout.

Even Bigger Weekend Ahead!

Just when I thought I had a busy weekend ahead, I received even bigger news. Liz (with Debbie Gunion) will be at Scrapbook Haus on Sunday, Dec 13 from 1-3 PM conducting a FREE Make n' Take featuring "Tattered Angels" products. This will be her third visit to Scrapbook Haus and she brings fabulous project ideas everytime. You won't want to miss her presentation. (I wonder if Susan has sleeping bags so we can just camp out in the crop room for the weekend. Read below for details on how we're ringing in the New Year Saturday night.)

Big Events this Saturday

It may be cold outside but it's going to be hot, hot, hot Saturday, December 12 at Scrapbook Haus. The day is packed with fun events to make you smile whether you are an expert crafter or a novice.

From 1-5 PM, two different Make 'n Takes will be offered in the store. JimmyeSue of Texana Designs/Jam'n Stamps fame will be helping guests create a Christmas bookmark. You know how cute her artwork is so you won't want to miss it. Plus as a participant, you'll be entered in a drawing to win a fabulous prize. Additionally, I will be helping guests create a "Cozy Winter" treat. And the best part... both these events are totally FREE! If you're looking for inexpensive ideas for teacher gifts, this is the place to be. Both projects will be offered continuously throughout the afternoon so stop by anytime to join in the fun.

That evening 6 pm to midnight will be the last crop for 2009. Yes, it's kinda like New Year's Eve in Scrapbook land. The cost is only $7 for six hours of creative fun. Bring a friend along to celebrate the season and ring out 2009. Just call the store to reserve a seat. We look forward to seeing you Saturday!

Be sure to call Scrapbook Haus to reserve your seat!

Christmas New Arrival

The new Basic Gray collection "Eskimo Kisses" is now in the store. It features double-sided cardstock-weight paper in non-traditional Christmas colors (pale blue, pink, lime green). I created this card using three sheets of paper from this collection. This is a great idea for a quick yet handmade Christmas card. The front panel of the card is simply 1/6 of a sheet of "Rooftop" so you can create 6 cards from a single sheet. I used "Evergreen" for the card base; but, you can use a pre-folded white card instead. The greetings were printed on the computer. The pink stripe along the bottom is really one of the stripes found on "Powdered Sugar." I still have at least 13 more stripes on this sheet of paper for future projects. This collection gives you a variety of choices. (I also noticed a really cute Bling blue crystal Christmas tree embellishment that matches this collection.)

Great Gift Idea

In case you're looking for creative ways to wrap gifts this season, check out the Graphic 45 Christmas Past Collection "Ode to Joy." I made this bag topper with one panel from the 12 x 12 sheet. I like it because it is not the traditional red/green combo. I used Diamond Stickles to outline the panel and to highlight areas in the floral pattern on the bag. The color of the Stickles really looks gold which is Christmas-y to me.

If you look at what is left from this 12 x 12 sheet, you can see what a value you get from this purchase. I still have one panel left to create another bag topper, two vertical panels suitable for cards, one large panel for a 6" x 6" album, and four square images suitable for gift tags. Stop by the store to see the rest of the samples I created from this versatile collection.

Hosting the family this year?

Are you looking for ways to make your holiday meal special? You might want to create placecards and/or menu cards for each place setting. This is a simple way to add a personal touch.

The base for both projects is Bazzill Metallics cardstock in a copper color. You can tell from the photo the shininess of this cardstock. The placecard was covered in a fall-look pattern paper and topped with a die cut leaf. The name was written with a Jelly Roll pen.

The menu card is really a pocket card created from the copper cardstock. Eyelets hold the flap closed to create the pocket. A strip of black ribbon accents the front of the pocket. The menu was typed in a Word document and printed on vellum. The vellum was then double matted on brown cardstock and then the fall printed paper.

Since Bazzill makes the Metallics cardstock in other colors, you can also tailor this idea for a Christmas or New Years' dinner. Happy eating!

It's a Girl Thing

I fell in love with this collection as soon as I saw it. This is the Perfectly Posh collection by Imaginisce. You can see the glittery accents in the photo on the left. The thermographic bonding allows the glitter to sparkle but NOT to flake off. The collection includes some cute images ranging from pink poodles to shoes to lipsticks to purses. It reminds me of the children's book series "Fancy Nancy." The cardstock weight paper is double-sided--- another favorite of mine as you get two patterns for the price of one sheet of paper.
Here are two cards I made using this collection.

Nikki Sivils visit

If you've been into the store lately, you might have noticed the cute Christmas and Halloween collections on the end caps. The artist, Nikki Sivils, visited Scrapbook Haus Oct 18 to conduct a mini- album workshop and make n' take. (As you can tell, she looks just like her publicity photos. ) She demonstrated many different uses for her collection. Her single sheet of Halloween embellishments includes two card fronts as well as several individual items to cut out and decorate your layouts. She also brought along product samples such as this Ghost chipboard album. Her double-sided cardstock gives you several pattern options without having to buy lots of paper to complete your project. Her collection also includes a set of acrylic stamps to coordinate with the artwork on the paper. Check out her product if you are looking for some whimsical designs.

Quick Halloween Treat Bag

Here is a quick project for last minute Halloween plans. This is the make n' take project that artist Nikki Sivils did at Scrapbook Haus Oct 18. Simply fill a zip-lock snack bag with candy. Then create a bag topper by stapling a folded 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" cardstock piece to both ends to hide the zip-lock. This sample used black cardstock for the main piece. A 1" strip of orange patterned cardstock was glued to the edge to allow a place to stamp the greeting. The 4 circular medallions were punched out of patterned cardstock. The ghost was stamped, cut out, and glued to the front of the topper. Nikki's paper designs feature other images that could also be used to embellish your treat bag. Your "little ghosts" will enjoy receiving such a spirited treat bag!

Boo-tiful

The new Halloween papers are arriving at the store! This layout was created from just two sheets of the Nikki Sivils "Boo-tiful" collection. As soon as I saw the artwork, I knew it would be perfect for pumpkin patch photos. Since the cardstock is double-sided, I was able to use one side for the pumpkin photo mat and heart border and the other side for the striped accent. The chevron design on the right side is created by folding back the striped paper to reveal the color on the reverse side. NO stickers or die cuts were needed. The complete cost was under $2.50! If you stay with this black & grey collection, it does not matter what color your children's (or pet's) costumes are. The neutral colors will match just fine.

This is also an example of Murphy's Law. I always do the title last. I was so excited to be getting this finished. But as soon as the last letter was glued down, I knew the orange paper was not showing up on the bold stripes. I am not one to tear apart layouts and start over. Luckily, I had a black Glaze pen on hand to outline each of the orange letters to make them stand out.

Bo Bunny "St Nick" is here!

The "St Nick" collection by Bo Bunny is on the shelf at Scrapbook Haus and it sure is cute. The images invoke an old-time Christmas feel. The ivory, pine green, and deep red colors are traditonal favorites. All the pages are double-sided which increases your options. Susan also has two choices of cardstock stickers, alphabet stickers, journaling blocks, and bling to coordinate with all the paper.

I selected the holly pattern and the green polka dot paper. Using just those two sheets of cardstock and one sheet of cardstock stickers, I created all the projects in the photo. That's right: one shutter card, three note cards, and four gift tags were created and I had a few scraps of paper left. Bo Bunny really gives you a great value for their product.

The rest of the line also includes a jolly St Nick, deep red polka dot paper, and a smaller holly print paper not pictured above. For more info on shutter cards, see the posting below.

Shutter Cards

I just finished creating two new shutter cards that are on display at the store. The first card uses just one sheet of the Best Creations cardstock. I love the cherubs on this paper. The thermographic images and the glitter effects make this paper beautiful. I really did not need any other paper patterns to decorate the panels. I used a Fiskars border punch on the right edge and wove a ribbon through the slots. This paper could be used for wedding pages, bridal shower invitations, baby pages, or Valentines.

The second card was created from two sheets of cardstock from the Bo Bunny St Nick collection that just arrived in the store. The cardstock is double-sided so I really had 4 patterns to work with. The colors are so well coordinated that you can't make an error matching patterns. A few Bo Bunny cardstock stickers finish up the card.
Both of these projects are really unique looking and are created with just a few well-placed score & cut lines. Head over to the store to check them out!
